Paul Okoth inspires Ulinzi’s comeback after strong start by Mathare

Mathare United suffered a blow to their Premier League survival hopes on Saturday after losing 2-1 to Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
United went into the penultimate weekend of the 2025/2026 season looking for a win to secure survival, but the loss now makes next weekend’s final day home fixture against Bandari a must-win.
The Slumboys were the first to break the deadlock shortly after the restart, with Adams Nyambane heading home his first goal for the club following a superb delivery into the box from a corner by fellow mid-season signing Isaac Omweri.
The lead, however, did not last long as 10 minutes later, Paul Okoth scored the first of his two goals to begin Ulinzi’s comeback.
United had plenty of chances to put the game to bed, but it is the Soldiers, who are also battling to avoid the drop, who produced the killer blow through Okoth with less than 10 minutes to play.
The result leaves us in 14th place with 38 points, three ahead of Ulinzi and four above Kariobangi Sharks, who occupy the final relegation spot.
Ulinzi and Sharks also have a game in hand each and will be in action in midweek before the final weekend.
United still have fate in their hands and need to win against Bandari if the midweek games do not go in our favour.
