Mathare United continues its quest for Premier League survival this weekend and will be on the road against Ulinzi Stars on Saturday.
This 3 pm kickoff at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, is a must-win game as the Soldiers, who sit in the bottom three and have a game in hand, are five points behind the Slumboys.
The lads gave their survival hopes a big boost last weekend thanks to a hard fought victory in Awendo over Mara Sugar and one of the standout players at the Green Stadium was Cetric Asango.
Back to full fitness after a six-month injury layoff, Asango played the entire game, helping keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 win.
“It felt good to be back out on the pitch,” the defender said in his preview for Saturday’s game. “Not only to come back, but to come back and help the team get a crucial result. We played as one unit, attacked as a team and defended as a team.”
With that result, fate is now fully in our hands and victory at the Complex will secure survival heading into the final day of the season.
“Last weekend’s result was huge but it hasn’t left us resting on our laurels. We know that we still have a job to do. We have to win on Saturday and this is our only focus,” Asango, who has been with the team since the start of our promotion campaign in the NSL, declared.
A win on Saturday will be the first time this season that the lads will have won back-to-back fixtures and will, in turn, send the team up to 41 points and on course to eclipse last season’s tally of 42 points.
United won 1-0 in the reverse fixture against Ulinzi.
