Goalkeeper Ouru eyes fourth clean sheet of the season against Gor Mahia

Kevin Ouru says morale is high within the playing unit as Mathare United prepare to face Gor Mahia in the Premier League on Thursday.

The lads have earned seven points from their opening five fixtures of the campaign and come into the game in fifth place in the standings, two points behind their next opponents, who are third.

John Kamau’s men are coming off a crucial 1-0 away victory over Shabana last Sunday, and Ouru, who had a big performance in goal at the Gusii Stadium, says that result has gone a long way in boosting the confidence of the squad.

He said, “Getting a win away from home, especially against a team like Shabana, brings great confidence to the team. At the moment, morale is very high in camp, and we are going into the game against Gor targeting nothing but three points.

“This is my first season with Mathare, but going back to seasons past, the team has a strong history in big games, as was evident against Shabana.”

Ouru joined the club from Posta Rangers before the start of the current campaign and has taken to his surroundings like a fish to water. The Kakamega High School Alumnus has played all five games and kept three clean sheets.

Ouru credits the support of his teammates to his strong start to life as a Slumboy.

He said, “I am blessed to have experienced goalkeepers as teammates. Mboya and Odiwuor are the best. They motivate me a lot, even when things aren’t going right. I credit them and our coach and even the head coach for my performance.”

The last time United played Gor Mahia at the Kasarani Stadium, Douglas Kibet and Daniel Otieno scored to hand us a 2-1 victory in the 2022-2023 season.
