Mathare United finds itself in a precarious position in the Premier League table heading into the final three matches of the 2025/26 season. Sitting in 14th place, United are in the relegation picture and sit just three points above the drop zone.

Every game from here on out is a final, and ahead of Saturday’s away match at Mara Sugar, coach Mohamed Muchula has called on everyone to give their all and put the club first before everything else.

“It is time to believe and give our best,” said Muchula, who was named interim head coach earlier this week following John Kamau’s dismissal. “Fate is in our hands, and we need to fight to keep it as such. Every game is a final for us, and we must suffer on the pitch if we are to be victorious.

“Everyone must put in 120%, go the extra mile. This is not the time to be individuals but rather a team. Fight for the name in front of the jersey, that is the badge, and the name at the back of the jersey will forever be remembered.”

Muchula, who served as second assistant to John Kamau since the start of last season, also went on to detail his approach for the weekend’s afternoon kickoff in Awendo.

He said, “The plan is simple. We need to go back to the basics and make sure we are perfect in those areas. We need to work and be good off the ball. Avoid conceding and work as one unit. I am happy that the players realise the task that is in front of them and know what they must do.”

It is not the first time that the former Wazito FC coach will lead the team out on matchday. He did it last season in the Slum Derby against Kariobangi Sharks, a match that saw the lads earn a point at Dandora Stadium after a 0-0 result.

Mara won 1-0 in the reverse fixture in Nairobi and have a strong home record against the Slumboys after winning the last two times the lads have been in town.
