Brian Ouru’s brace inspires Mathare comeback at Nyayo

It was an afternoon of many firsts at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday as Mathare United hammered AFC Leopards 4-1 in the Premier League.
In our biggest margin of victory under John Kamau, Brian Ouru scored a brace – his first in the top flight – to turn the tie on its head after Ingwe had taken the lead on the hour mark through Victor Omune.
The midfielder, who had until today scored just one goal for the club, scored the equaliser on 77 minutes and was again at it six minutes later.
Isaac Omweri has been a revelation since joining in mid-season, and after setting up Ouru for the winner, proceeded to score a wonder strike himself with three minutes left on the clock.
Sensing a mauling, the lads continued to press high on the pitch, and added a fourth goal through Ian Omondi, who swept the ball home from close range after Leopards had failed to deal with an inviting cross into the area from a corner by the superb Omweri. It was the defender’s debut goal in Mathare colours and a befitting reward for his standout performances this season.
Signed from FC Talanta last season, Omondi has played every single minute of our 24 fixtures thus far.
Saturday’s win ends a three-match losing streak against Leopards, but more importantly, allows us to return to winning ways after back-to-back losses against Shabana and Gor Mahia.
We are now up to 12th in the table with 29 points, and next travel to Murang’a for a battle with the SEAL.
