Slumboys host Murang’a Seal at the Annexe in first fixture of 2026

Mathare United resumes its 2025/2026 Premier League campaign on Saturday by hosting Murang’a Seal at the Kasarani Stadium Annexe.

The last time John Kamau’s men were in action, which was three weeks ago, they suffered a 1-0 upset against Bandari in Mombasa just days before Christmas.

It was an unfortunate way to end the year and head into the festive period. The result encapsulated the form that the Slumboys have been in this season.

The lads haven’t won back-to-back games so far this term and went into the Bandari game on the back of their fifth win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Sofapaka at Saturday’s venue.

As we resume the season by playing our first game of 2026, Dennis Ng’ang’a hopes that with the new year, we finally get to see the full potential of the current squad.

“We need to start the year on a high and set the tone for how we want the second leg of the season to go,” said Ng’ang’a, who made his MUFC and Premier League debuts in that 1-0 loss to Bandari.

“We have been giving our all in training, even when the results weren’t in our favour. The intensity hasn’t faded, and everyone has resumed with even more vigour and desire to showcase the full potential of this team, and I know with the right attitude, we will see this on Saturday.”

Ng’ang’a, who joined the club at the start of last season, became the latest player to make his Mathare United debut, and has revealed that he was caught by surprise by the gaffer’s decision to include him from the start against Bandari.

“I did not expect to start, and it was a nice surprise for me. But after working very hard in training for more than a year, it is hard for you not to be ready for when the opportunity arises.

“I thank God for allowing me to come this far. I also thank my teammates, especially Asieche, Masika and Ochieng, who have been strong role models and have encouraged me every step of the way.”
