Mathare host Sofapaka at Kasarani Annex on Wednesday afternoon

John Nyawir says he and his teammates are feeling the pressure to deliver and start a consistent run of results, terming every game from here on as a “final”.
The Slumboys have had a shaky season thus far and have won just four out of 13 games. With another six ending in defeat, John Kamau’s men have accumulated 15 points and find themselves just three points above the drop zone.
Next up for them is a midweek duel with Sofapaka, who occupy one of the three relegation places. Heading into the 3pm kickoff at the Kasarani Stadium Annexe, Nyawir says he and his teammates respect Batoto Ba Mungu and are expecting a tough contest.
“I can assure you that this game will not be easy for us nor will it be easy for them. Both teams are seeking to improve their current situations and will see this as the perfect opportunity to do just that.
“We are treating every game like it is a final for us. Whether we are facing a team at the top of the table or at the bottom, each opponent will be treated with respect. We will not underrate them (Sofapaka) and we will give our level best and hope to win on Wednesday.”
Scoring has led to the Slumboys blowing hot and cold this season. Only two other teams have scored fewer than the eight goals we have managed and the gaffer has on numerous occasions bemoaned our profligacy in attack.

Though tasked with duties on the defensive end of the pitch, Naywir emphasizes that getting the ball in the back of the net shouldn’t only be left for the strikers as it is a duty for the collective.
“We’ve been creating a lot of chances and we haven’t been utilizing them. Case in point in our last game against Bidco United. It is frustrating but we continue to work as a team as we all know that to place yourselves in a winning position, you first have to score.”
