Elli Asieche had given Mathare United the lead in the 56th minute

A stoppage-time penalty by Hansel Ochieng at the Kericho Green Stadium denied Mathare United maximum points as APS Bomet fought back from a goal down to earn a point in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Elli Asieche had given John Kamau’s men the lead 10 minutes into the second half to continue his rich vein of form in front of goal. The veteran forward has scored four goals through the opening eight rounds of the Premier League, equaling his tally from last season and is now joint top of the scorers chart.

Elli Asieche has now scored four goals in the Premier League this season after his strike against APS Bomet on Sunday, 9 November.

Despite the three points slipping from their grasp, the Slumboys did manage to snap a run of two successive losses and now sit 13th in the standings with eight points.

Coach Kamau made five changes from our previous outing. Among them was Brian Ochieng, who returned for a hamstring injury to make his first appearance since matchday 3.

The lads will now seek to build on Sunday’s result with Kakamega Homeboyz travelling to Nairobi for round nine next weekend.
