The Slumboys suffered their 14th league loss of the season on Sunday as they went down 2-0 to visiting APS Bomet at the Kasarani Stadium Annexe.

Despite some outstanding performances, especially in the second half of the campaign, the 2025/26 season has largely fallen short of expectations, and now Mathare finds itself fully in the fight for survival after Sunday’s defeat.

With three more rounds left to play, John Kamau’s men sit just above the drop zone in 14th with 35 points, three clear of the bottom three sides.

APS Bomet, who forced a draw in the reverse game back in November in Kericho, were much more decisive at the Annexe. Sammy Omollo’s men, who entered the weekend sitting a point behind Mathare, scored on either side of halftime through Philip Wasai and Festus Kipkemoi.

The lads can still salvage their situation and have their destiny in their hands and now just need to be perfect for the season run-in.

Up next is a trip to Awndo to face in-form Mara Sugar.
