Slumboys put Bidco to the sword at wet Kasarani surface

Mathare United secured maximum points in the Premier League on Saturday thanks to a 3-0 win over Bidco United at the Kasarani Stadium Annexe.

John Makwata grabbed himself a brace, and Musa Masika added one goal in a comfortable win for John Kamau’s men, who have now put significant daylight between them and the drop zone.

United arrived for the day sitting six points from the relegation zone and nine points above Bidco, who came into the match second from bottom. The match, therefore, had a significant bearing on the survival hopes for both sides.

With his brace on Saturday, John Makwata has now scored four goals since his midseason move.

United had a bright start and were up after just 12 minutes when Makwata headed home a cross into the area from Isaac Omweri. That goal would be the difference in the opening stanza, and with the slim margin, Bidco trodded forward, seemingly sensing they would get something from the game.

Their forays forward would leave spaces behind to be exploited, which the lads superbly did with Makwata and Musa adding to the scoreline in the 53rd and 66th minutes.

With the win, the lads have improved to 34 points heading into the final six matches of the season. Saturday’s game also saw Bilal Atano, signed in January from Bandari FC, earn his Mathare debut after being introduced in the 88th minute.

Mathare now have a full week to prepare for their next match, which will be against Nairobi United next Saturday.
