Mathare United register heaviest defeat of the season in Kakamega

Mathare United endured a tough outing in Kakamega on Saturday as hosts Kakamega Homeboyz ran out 3-0 winners in a Premier League round 27 tie played at the Bukuhubgu Stadium.
Despite their efforts, John Kamau’s men were unable to replicate their first leg heroics, where they defeated Homeboyz 2-0 in Nairobi, and fell to their heaviest loss of the season.
The result leaves the team in a precarious position as the season nears its conclusion. United, albeit with a game in hand, are now just five points above the drop zone with seven rounds left to play.
The lads, who host Police FC next, have a bit more time to prepare for the match. Initially scheduled to be played on April 8, the match has since been pushed forward and will now be played a week later on April 14.
In assessing how his charges played, Coach Kamau was blunt and conceded that his team was well below par.
He said, “We were not ourselves at all today. We were a pale shadow of ourselves, and that is the honest truth. We will address it, but we have to quickly forget about what happened today.”
