Mathare United fell to another late goal at Nyayo Stadium, this time against Gor Mahia, who won Saturday’s Premier League showdown 2-1.

After a goalless opening half, Gor took the lead in the 68th minute through Ebnezer Assifuah. Still, John Kamau’s men would offer a response in the 83rd minute when Dennis Okoth made another immediate impact off the bench after taking advantage of Gad Matthews spilt ball inside the area.

With the game seemingly headed for a share of the spoils, a defensive mix-up saw the hosts win a penalty with two minutes left in the 90, and Enock Morrison would step up to send Kevin Ouru the wrong way.

It was the third successive match in which the Slumboys had allowed their opponents to come back and score late to deny them a win or at least a draw.

After 23 games, the lads remain in 11th place in the standings with 26 points. They now have a two-week break to regroup as they will not be in action next weekend with the FKF Cup taking centre stage.

Mathare will resume its league season against AFC Leopards on March 14.
