Brian Ochieng’s equaliser secures 1-1 draw against Rangers

Mathare United and Posta Rangers battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday in the Premier League.
A first goal in United colours for Captain Brian Ochieng, with 20 minutes to go at the Kasarani Stadium Annexe, confirmed a share of the spoils as it cancelled out Faustine Ojiambo’s first-half opener.
The two teams came into the weekend separated by just one point on the table, and remain as such after the match with Rangers in 11th and United in 12th.
Saturday’s result meant John Kamau’s charges remain in search of their first consecutive win sequence this season.
Daniel Odiwuor made his debut five months after he signed for the club at the start of the season. The goalkeeper started between the sticks in place of the injured Kevin Ouru.
An experienced shot-stopper, Odiwuor, who was one of three debutants on Saturday, made some crucial saves, most notably in the 87th minute when he got down quickly to deny Ombima from capitalising at the near post and scoring what would have ended up being the winner for the hosts.
The other two debutants on matchday 18 were new signings Daglas Mokaya and Harrison Amalemba. Signed earlier in the week alongside former Musingu High School teammate Benson Shikutwa, Amalemba was introduced in the 86th minute to also mark his Premier League debut.
The lads will be back at the Annexe next weekend, playing away to KCB.
