Kimari urges teammates to register back-to-back wins for the first time this season

The lads return to the Kasarani Stadium, Annexe this Saturday, where they start the second leg of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign with an away fixture against Posta Rangers.

The Mailmen won the reverse fixture on matchday 1 at the same venue, coming back to render Elli Asieche’s opener a mere consolation.

Steve Kimari was an unused substitute in that match back in September, but the midfielder has had memorable moments against Rangers in the past, one of which was his debut for the club in January 2022.

“The Posta Rangers fixture is a special fixture for me, as it is the fixture in which I made my Mathare United debut four years ago in January of 2022,” he said as he previewed Saturday’s early kickoff. “I played the final five minutes plus stoppage as we drew 1-1 at the Annexe. I am hoping we get to win this time around and avenge the loss in the reverse fixture this season.

“We are coming off a win in our last game, I feel we are in a good position to get a good result on Saturday.”

Kimari hasn’t had a consistent run in the team this term, but he has remained steadfast and defended the badge whenever he has been called upon, most recently in the 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars that marked our first win of 2026 this past weekend. The 26-year-old started against the Soldiers and lasted for an hour.

The club has been busy in the transfer window, and so far six players have been brought on board.

As one of the longest-serving players in the squad, Kimari has been part of a number of squads in his four years as a Slumboy. In his assessment of the new signings, the midfielder was candid, insisting that the current squad is the best we have put together in recent times.

“For the time I have been at the club, I feel that the current squad is the best in terms of quality and depth. The new players who have joined us have settled in quite nicely and brought about healthy competition for places.”

The Slumboys will leapfrog the Mailmen with a win on Saturday and can move up to seventh if other results go their way this weekend.
