The lads are back at the Kasarani Stadium, Annexe on Friday, where they will welcome Ulinzi Stars from 4 pm, seeking their first win of the new year.
John Kamau’s men have lost their last two fixtures, more recently against Murang’a Seal at the same venue as Friday’s showdown, as they took to the pitch for the first time in 2026.
Isaac Omweri, who signed days before the fixture from Nairobi United, featured in the game as he was introduced with 20 minutes to go.
It was an unfortunate way to start his Mathare United tenure, but the winger wasn’t fazed by the result and believes the potential within the team is immense, with the signs evident.
“You can see that the team isn’t satisfied with how things are at the moment. In every training session I have been here, I have seen the desire in everyone to work towards winning. The reaction after the final whistle after the Murang’a Seal loss told me all I wanted to know. Everyone was dejected and, above all, angry, which is great motivation for those of us coming into the team, and I believe things will be better starting with the game against Ulinzi.”
Omweri is one of four players brought on board this mid-season transfer window. With scoring being a major hurdle for the Slumboys this campaign, the Kibabii High School alumnus was one of those chosen to solve the team’s profligacy issues.
