Centre back Ian Omondi rallies his teammates to end 2025 on a winning note

Mathare United plays its final fixture of 2025 on Sunday and will be away to Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Sports Club.
It is not the final fixture of the 2025/26 season, though, as the campaign will resume early next year after the year-end festivities.
This season has been a rollercoaster of emotions as the lads have battled for consistency. It is a situation that has frustrated the players themselves, and Ian Omondi has revealed as much as he looked ahead to the weekend’s game.
“It has been disappointing that we haven’t been able to rack up a strong run of results and place ourselves higher up in the table. However, despite every setback, there has been one thing that has remained, and that is our belief and desire to do better. We believe in ourselves and know that if we continue to keep our heads down, then we will finally come good. Our efforts on the training pitch and on matchdays will pay off, and those wins will start coming more frequently.”
John Kamau’s men are coming off a 1-0 victory over Sofapaka that kept them in 10th place in the standings and are now seeking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Bandari, too, has had consistency issues and has twice been forced into making a coaching change. They sit four points below us in the table, and Omondi believes that they are up for one of their toughest games this season.

“This match will not be easy, I can guarantee you that. It will not be easy for us, nor will it be for Bandari. Both teams are desperate for a win to end the year on a high note. It will be a tight game, and the team that wants it the most is the team that will carry the day.”
Signed from Talanta halfway through last season, Omondi has grown from strength to strength in his short time as a Slumboy. As the only player to have played every minute for us this term, Ian has been a pillar in our defence line, which has so far managed to keep seven clean sheets.
