Kinyanjui scored the winner against Nairobi United last time out

Mathare United will welcome Mara Sugar on Monday in Round 12 of the Premier League at the Kasarani Stadium. The match comes less than a week after our most recent game, a 1-0 success over Nairobi United.

Paul Kinyanjui handed John Kamau’s men the victory against Nairobi with his first goal of the season, and he is confident that there is plenty of that to come to offset a slow start to the campaign for both him and the club.

Kinyanjui finished as one of the club’s top scorers last season, but hasn’t hit the same strides this year.

“It is a relief to have finally got my name on the scoresheet this season. Not scoring had started to take a toll on me, so I am definitely happy to have the “monkey off my back”, as they say. The goal comes at the right time as we seek a season turnaround, and I am confident now that goals will start to flow.”

The Slumboys have had an inconsistent campaign so far and head into Monday’s 4 pm kickoff seeking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Mara are a team well known to Kinyanjui. He first faced the Millers in United colours as the two teams battled for the National Super League (NSL) title three seasons ago and knows exactly the intensity the visitors will bring.

“Mara have a direct way about them and love to play with long balls to their wingers. We therefore expect a high-intensity game not only because of their style but also because they aren’t doing so well and are seeking a strong performance to spark their season. My message to my teammates is to be fully focused from the first to the last minute, just like we were in our last game.”

With 14 points at the moment, Mathare, who occupy ninth place in the table, can shoot up to sixth with a win on Monday.
