First half own goal decides tough match in Police’s favour

Mathare United were unlucky to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Police FC courtesy of Aboud Omar’s goal in the first half of the Saturday encounter at the Police Sacco Grounds in South C, Nairobi.

Taking on the defending league champions on the road, the Slumboys were handed their fifth loss of the campaign, with the 3pm kickoff being decided by Aboud Omar’s first-half strike.

The lads saw plenty of the ball at the Police Sacco Stadium, but could not make it count as they came undone by a solitary goal.

The gaffer, seeking to build on the impressive 2-0 victory over high-flying Kakamega Homeboyz, made three changes to the starting squad, with Musa Masika, who had a standout performance off the bench against Homeboyz, getting his first start of the season.

The changes gave the Slumboys a strong presence in midfield and allowed them to dominate play. Unfortunately, this dominance in possession could not be translated to our attack, with former Mathare custodian Job Ochieng rarely being called into action.

Saturday’s loss, which came after the lads had picked up four points from their last two games, saw the team drop to 15th in the standings and now sits just a point above the drop zone.
