Mathare look to snap three-match winless streak against Homeboyz
Mathare United will take on Kakamega Homeboyz at the MISC Kasarani on Saturday on the back of a three-match winless streak.
The visitors have been one of the form teams and sit second in the standings coming into this game.
They are certainly the favourites to win the 4pm kickoff based on form and history, but Elli Asieche, who spent a season with the Abana Ba Ingo right before joining the club, believes form will count for nothing on Saturday.
“It is going to be a good game between two teams with different styles of play. I don’t believe form will play a big part in who wins. The team that will carry the day will be the team that has more desire and is determined from the first whistle to the last.
“Both teams are under pressure to win. Homeboyz are away and aren’t sure what they are going to find tomorrow. Our pressure is different because we need to end this winless run, but I hope this pressure doesn’t follow us to the pitch and disrupts our focus.”
Asieche has been instrumental for us this season with his goals, earning us four points thus far. Having found the back of the net four times already to equal his tally from last season, the attacking midfielder not only leads our scoring charts but also ranks high in the race for the league’s golden boot.
Analysing his strong start to the year, Asieche said, “There are several things that I can say have been crucial to my form. One is the understanding within the squad from the coaches to my fellow teammates.
“The other is that we had a good preseason, and I was involved from start to finish. It is the first time in probably three seasons that I have had a full preseason devoid of injury, and the fruits of this are now beginning to be seen.”
The Slumboys will head to Kasarani tomorrow seeking to not only snap their current three-game winless run but also to end a run of 10 outings against Homeboyz without a victory.
