Slumboys go down fighting against record league champions Gor Mahia

Mathare United saw its return to the MISC Kasarani Stadium after a two-year absence end in a 2-0 defeat to Gor Mahia on Thursday.
Playing at the Kasarani venue on matchday six of the Premier League for the first time since the ill-fated 2022/23 campaign that ended in relegation, the lads came undone in the second half with Gor getting their goals through Bryson Wangai and Musa Sherif.
John Kamau’s men missed the chance to move up to second with a win and now drop to eighth after suffering their third loss of the season.
We defeated Gor the last time we faced them at Kasarani. This was, however, not the case this time round.
Charles Akonnor’s side dominated the early exchanges with Patrice Esombe and Sherif constant menaces.
With the visitors dominating play, the lads sought to play on the fast break and in one of those instances, Brian Ouru managed to score, but his effort was later ruled out for offside.
In the second period, Derrick Anami was brought on at halftime, but unfortunately, the forward would not last 10 minutes on the pitch as he pulled a muscle, forcing the bench into another change.
In his place would come Musa Masika to make his season debut. Last season’s top scorer suffered a knee injury in preseason, and having him back is a big plus.
The lads now switch their attention to Sunday’s showdown with AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium.
