Mathare United and Tusker battled to a barren draw at Dandora Stadium on Wednesday

John Kamau has reacted to Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Tusker FC in the Premier League, terming it a “disappointment” and “nothing to celebrate”.

Facing the struggling Brewers at the Dandora Stadium in the only game of the day, Kamau’s charges had several chances where they could have killed the game, especially in the first half, through Paul Kinyanjui, who hit the woodwork twice.

After a hard-fought victory over KCB in Round Two, United could have moved to the top of the standings, albeit briefly, if they had mastered a resounding victory in their first outing at the Dandora venue this season.

Kamau saw it as a missed opportunity, and this is what he said when asked to sum up the game: “It is disappointing, very disappointing. There is nothing to celebrate with the one point. We knew Tusker were looking for their first win, and with their quality, they would come out guns blazing. We did well to contain them, but we were not at our best in attack. This is where I am most disappointed.”

Elli Asieche has been in great scoring form to start the season and is the only player to have found the net for us so far. On Wednesday, however, the midfielder cut a pale shadow of himself and was surprisingly one of three changes made at halftime.

Giving insight on the substitution, Kamau said, “It was an off day for him (Asieche) together with Brian Ouru. That is why we made the decision to take them off. Asieche is our key player, and sometimes you have to make tough decisions, especially with how our schedule is. We have a game on Sunday, so the changes we made were part focusing on our next match.”

Yet to have more than three days to prepare for a match since the season started, the lads have no time for a breather with the Slum Derby against Kariobangi Sharks up next.
