Mathare United visits winless Tusker at Dandora on Wednesday

Mathare United takes to the pitch once again, with our Round 3 Premier League match being against Tusker FC at the Dandora Stadium on Wednesday.

The Brewers have had a slow start to the season and sit bottom of the standings without a point. Analysing their situation, Coach John Kamau foresees a tricky fixture and believes their poor start isn’t a true reflection of the team’s quality.

He said, “We’ve tried to analyse the opponent by watching the two matches they have played, and one thing that stood out is that they have a quality side and we cannot approach the game focusing only on their results. Another thing we’ve noted is that a huge number of changes were made by Tusker for their last game, and this makes tomorrow’s match a tricky one, as we do not know who will come as Tusker on Wednesday.”

Kamau, who orchestrated a 2-1 victory over the Ruaraka-based side last season at the Dandora venue, wants his charges to approach the game with the same mentality as they did their round 2 fixture against KCB.

“My biggest concern going into tomorrow is, will my players execute the principles of Mathare United down to a tee. If we can do that, then I have nothing to worry about. We approached our last game with the correct attitude, and it paid off, and that is what I want to see against Tusker.”

Herit Mungai was unable to continue the match against KCB last Friday due to an injury to his shin.

In the match against KCB, Kevin Ouru and Herit Mungai were substituted in the second half due to injuries that needed extensive attention from the medical staff. Giving an update on the two, the gaffer revealed that we might see one of them available for Wednesday, if not both.

He said, “Ouru is back and at the moment looks ahead of Mungai in terms of being close to taking part tomorrow.”

Last season, against Tusker, both teams won their respective home fixtures.
